HAND MADE IN ITALY SINDS 1820

Astorflex started shoe production in 1820 in Mantova, Italy, as a business to serve the local people working in the fields, using leather and wood in the construction of clogs. Produced entirely in Italy, Astorflex takes a responsible, sustainable approach to its laid-back footwear.

Since the very beginning, it has always been sensitive to respect the environment by using natural raw materials and non-toxic chemical components, such as water-based glues and vegetable tanned leathers.

NATURAL MATERIALS

Astorflex uses Italian leather for the uppers, sourced specifically from master tanneries in Tuscany. The lining and insoles are in vegetable-tanned calf leather, obtained by soaking the leather in a mixture of water and powdered oak bark and mimosa, without using dies or color finishes. This process makes the leather healthier, hipoallergenic and guarantees greater sweat absortion for dry, odourless feet.

The soles of these Astorflex Bitflex boots are in natural rubber consisting in coagulated latex from the rubber tree (hevea brasilianis). The various shoe parts are assembled using water-based adhesives. All Astorflex shoes are designed for comfort, being flexible, soft, and quickly adapting to the wearer's feet.

ABOUT ASTORFLEX

Astorflex, based in Mantua, Italy, known for its durable casual footwear, has been making high-quality shoes since 1820. With six generations of family history and knowledge, the brand continues its tradition of making world-class chukka boots described by some as "the best desert boots in the world". Astorflex shoes feature soft suede uppers, natural crepe soles, and undyed leather linings. Emphasizing comfort and durability, Astorflex uses traditional techniques and high-quality materials to create footwear that is comfortable, soft, and notably flexible, quickly molding to the wearer's foot.

Astorflex is currently owned by Fabio Travenzoli. The company's name was coined by his father, Alfredo, who, along with his brother Bettino, continued the family business established by their father Daniele and grandfather Ferdinando.

In the early 19th century, the first Astorflex shoe factory was set up in Castel D’ario (Mantova), an area known for its numerous small, family-run workshops producing handmade footwear with leather uppers and wooden soles. After World War I, with the advent of industrialization, the small enterprise "Fratelli Travenzoli" began manufacturing various types of footwear using the "Ideal" method, now known as the "Stitchdown Construction”, which features outer stitching along the edge of the sole.
